Anchorage RYA Sea School

A Sailing School is only as good as as it's instructors and at the Anchorage RYA Sea School we quarantee that you will sail with the Instructor of your choice.

Most of us where given our first opportunity to instruct by Chris Warwick whilst he was Operations Manager at  Sunsail, which is why we have included him in our list of Instructors.

All our Instructors have attended more RYA updates than they care to remember and have probably taught the Instructors that other schools use.

Our Principal, Tony Agar, learnt to sail on Cheddar Reservoir as a teenager before progressing to borrowing the company Motor Yacht whilst working in the Retail Motor Trade. However it was not until he moved to Weston-Super-Mare and purchased his own yacht that he realised the importance of learning navigation as the Bristol Channel has the second highest range of tide in the world!

After 5 years campaigning on various RORC yachts, Tony became an instructor for Sunsail in 1996 and later with the UKSA. At the same time, as continuing to deliver both motor and sailing yachts throughout the Atlantic, Europe and the Caribbean under his own label when not doing so for Sunsail.

Tony started the Anchorage Sea School as a shorebased establishment to continue his keen interest in Astro Navigation before joining with the others in offering the entire range of RYA practical courses.

Ed Broadbent, our Chief instructor with particular responsibity for our London Sea School clients.

Ed began sailing at school and since then he has owned and raced or cruised, boats, in various parts of the world,

After a successfull career as a Civil Engineeer, he moved back to the UK from South Africa in 2001 to take up Sailing full time.

He also teaches sailing, up to RYA Yachtmaster level, and gives tuition to new boat owners on handling and sailing their own boats.

All of this has given him the opportunity to experience sailing many types of boats from large Motor cruisers and Catamarans to Racing and Cruising Yachts.

It has also taken him to most countries on the Mediterranean, to the Canaries, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, South Africa and the Indian Ocean.

Hamish Edsell with particular responsibity for our Sailtime clients.

Hamish’s passion for sailing began as a child and he has earned his living at sea since 17, Hamish is now a fully paid up old sea dog.

After Dartmouth, he served in the Royal Navy as an Executive Officer until 1976 in everything from MTBs to aircraft carriers including submarines, and has visited 86 countries.

He retired the first time in 1976 to train as a doctor at Southampton, then rejoined the Navy to serve as a GP rising to the rank of Surgeon Commander. After retiring in 1996, he has been sailing professionally ever since, becoming a Yachtmaster Instructor in 2001.

Hamish sails for fun and hopes to bring that enjoyment and fascination to those who sail with him, whether they be racing, cruising or learning. Whilst happy to discuss the minutiae of aero and hydrodynamics, the mechanics of waves, stability or the insides of a diesel, he concentrates on the basics of safety, command and navigation.
