RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Theory
The RYA Day Skipper theory course requires no previous knowledge, but some practical experience is desirable. Attending the Day Skipper shore based course is the ﬁrst step towards becoming a yacht skipper and give you all the navigation and theoretical knowledge you will need to go onto your Day Skipper Practical .
Courses are held in a homely and relaxed atmosphere and you will learn the:-
· The IALA Buoyage System
· Passage Planning
· Weather Forecasts and their sources
· Tidal Height and Tidal Streams
· Rules of the Road
· General Seamanship
· Principles of Anchoring
· Electronic Charts
This course will give you all of the navigation and theoretical
knowledge required to move on towards the Day Skipper practical course and RYA
Day Skipper certiﬁcate.
During the course students will sit 2 assessment papers. This course may be taken over 5 consecutive days Monday to Friday (0900 to 1700) or by self-study on our distance learning programme.
The cost is £360 and includes all the RYA charts, almanacs and equipment needed to complete the course including the RYA Course Notes. You just need to bring a notepad and some 2B pencils. Tea and coffee is included and you can get lunch from the village which is a short walk away.
