Anchorage RYA Sea School

RYA Practical Courses.

Sailing is a social sport and an RYA training course can be an ideal learn to sail holiday and way to make new friends, as most students take their first sailing lessons as singles. Our RYA qualified instructors have all been chosen for their sociable approach as well as their expertise to make the time you spend with us as much fun as it is a learning experience.

The tidal waters of the Solent area are an ideal area to start yachting and learn to sail for both novice and advanced students alike, offering as it does not only sheltered waters but every conceivable light, buoy, or situation that you are ever likely to encounter as you progress through the RYA sail training programme.

Our sea school ethos will always be to put your safety first and we hope that by offering simple and patient instruction to empower each of our students, that they may gain confidence in their own ability as they learn how to sail, navigate and to take their first steps as Day Skipper or to undertake longer offshore coastal passages.

Whilst the RYA training programme can be joined at any level from competent crew through Day Skipper to Coastal Yachtmaster, we try to avoid teaching RYA navigation theory on practical courses preferring to concentrate on using the yacht and the electronic various Navaids that are found on most modern cruising yachts.

We try to combine our RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses so that each might learn off each other with a maximum student/instructor ratio of 5:1. Our Coastal Skipper Courses are ideal for those who have the suggested minimum pre-course experience.

Students are accommodated in shared cabins and for hygienic reasons we do not supply bedding or towels; moreover, we recommend that you also bring a pillow. All non-alcoholic beverages, breakfasts, lunches and snacks are supplied whilst aboard; but we prefer to eat our evening meals ashore in one of the many excellent hostelries around the Solent unless of course, we are doing our night sail.

Clients are welcome to bring along their own favourite or dietary food and drink. Meals ashore are at your own expense.

The cost of all our RYA practical courses is £550

Wet weather gear is available for hire from us at £6.00 per day.

All our practical courses start at 1900 hrs on Sunday and end by 1600 hrs on the Friday.
